The Attorney General’s Office brought charges against the then Secretary of Economic Development of La Guajira, Alberto Carlos Ariza Cujia, for alleged anomalies in the supervision of a technical assistance and social development agreement signed for more than $6.3 billion.

The events are related to an agreement with the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia for the benefit of 450 coffee-growing families on the Colombian-Venezuelan border to guarantee, among other aspects, the return of the farmers to their land.

The control entity indicated that Ariza Cujia, apparently, did not fully exercise his function as supervisor, since he would not have carried out the monitoring, control and surveillance corresponding to the fulfillment of the contractual object and, despite all the delays presented, he allowed him to continue with his execution.

The evidence collected shows that there was always a low level of compliance with the proposed goals, which is why the audit made different calls for attention to the supervision exercised by the former secretary, who would have ignored the solution to the weaknesses found in the execution.

The conduct was provisionally classified by the Second Deputy Attorney General’s Office for State Contracting as a very serious offense by way of very serious fault, due to elementary neglect of their duties.
