A Cuban family denounced impunity in the case of a 15-year-old teenager named Damián, stabbed on February 10 in Pinar del Río by two individuals who remain at large.
According to a Facebook post by Internet user Odelaisy Ríos Sotolongo, close to the victim’s family, the young man was attacked by two residents of the Carlos Manuel neighborhood of the capital of Pinar del Río, identified as Lesma and another with a similar name, who wounded him gravity.
Damián was rushed to the Old Hospital in Pinar del Río, where doctors did not detect a perforation in his colon, despite having undergone surgery.
He was then transferred to the Children’s Hospital, where he began a medical odyssey that included multiple operations due to complications such as peritonitis and intestinal problems.
The family reports that, despite having presented the case, the police opened the case for “minor injuries”, without investigating the condition of the victim. Despite that, justice has not been done.
Ríos Sotolongo details that the main aggressor would have left the country even though the police were warned. The publication questions how an individual with bail can travel through the airport, and suggests that the case involved complicity or corruption in the judicial system.
The other person involved has not been arrested either.
The family demands that it be done justice for Damián, who is still hospitalized.
Despite the growing wave of violence in Cuba, many cases remain unpunished. Recently the complaint of a man who was attacked in Havana and “today the criminals are enjoying the dirty chemicals they smoke, and a plate of food without working, because to this day it has not been reported that they have been captured.”
