After the first technical table held in the Atlántico Government this Wednesday between the departmental and municipal authorities to address the emergency presented in Caimital, Malambo, some measures were established with the aim of finding solutions for this sector.

The governor of Atlántico, Eduardo Verano de la Rosa, reported that a permanent technical table was established to periodically evaluate the situation in the village. Likewise, a new bathymetry was established to be certain of the level of the river at this point.

Additionally, the president requested the collection of historical and current information on the bathymetries that have been carried out near Caimital, Malambo.

«At this moment the tendency of the Magdalena River is to enter Malambo through the Caimital area, which will obviously cause us a series of erosion problems and also the loss of the communication channel for the 60 families that live in that area. sector. Then we will permanently leave this technical table with authorities such as Cormagalena, CRA, the Mayor’s Office of Malambo and the Government of Atlántico,” he specified.

Verano added that this Thursday they will meet again with the results of the requested tests and with the participation of Malambo industrialists, who have also been interested in finding a solution to this problem.

“In the new technical meeting, decisions will have to be made jointly with the private sector that has built a series of dams that could prevent the water from leaving if it enters,” explained Verano.

Nelson Oquendo, Undersecretary of Attention and Disaster Prevention of the Atlantic, added that after the installation of the Technical Committee on the Caimital situation, it was established that in addition to the businessmen in Malambo, the river transporters and the entire Atlantic emergency network will assist.

“By instructions from the governor of Atlántico, Cormagdalena’s presence was also requested at this Thursday’s meeting with the other authorities,” said Oquendo.

The mayor of Malambo, Yenis Orozco, asserted that the risk from river erosion would not only affect Malambo, but also Soledad and Sabangrande.

«That is why I call for the best decisions and pertinent actions to be taken at these technical tables. The first of them is to organize the bathymetry with experts with the aim of unifying criteria that provide a solution to the families who reside in this sector.

Augusto Rivero, Secretary of Government of Malambo, assured that this undermining resulted in the collapse of some homes, among other effects on many peasant families in this sector.

“Due to this situation, it became necessary to declare a public calamity so that, through the Atlantic Government, we can manage, before the National Disaster Risk Management Unit – UNGRD, the necessary resources to remedy all this problem and imminent risk that arises. in Caimital,” explained the official.

It should be noted that after the declaration of public calamity in the Caimital village, it was reported that 70 hectares have been delayed by the Magdalena River.
