Governor of Córdoba denounced alleged detriment in the Ministry of Education

“It is presumed that the person or persons responsible would be using the ID cards of unsuspecting citizens to register them as teachers without being so and pass them off as affiliates of the National Fund for Social Benefits of Teachers, in order to obtain money for salaries and benefits. “This is what Governor Erasmo Zuleta denounced.

The official explained that this embezzlement was discovered through a complaint from one of the people whom They would have used his citizenship card to commit an alleged crime.

“This person testified that he had been deceived by a stranger who approached him on the street and offered him a subsidy of $200,000, for which he handed over his citizenship card and opened a bank account for him. Later, this person found out from the EPS that he was affiliated with the Teaching profession, despite not being a teacher,” he stated.

The departmental administration of Córdoba also states that according to the investigations carried out, several payments were made to the bank account that was opened for the supposedly deceived person.

Payments include transfers corresponding to vacation salary, Christmas bonus, teacher vacation bonus and basic salary, which would have been collected by the leaders of the scam in the months of October 2023 and April 2024.

The deception against the resources of the Departmental Secretariat of Education would have been committed on several people with their identity documents.

“These resources of the Government of Córdoba are intended to be used for the payment of payroll and other benefits of public sector teachers, who are duly registered and provide their services in the different educational institutions of the non-certified municipalities of the department,” they stated.

Governor Erasmo Zuleta said that following the line of transparency from the Government and in the complaint filed with the Attorney General’s Office, taking into account the facts described, it was requested to initiate a preliminary investigation for the alleged commission of the crimes of embezzlement by appropriation and procedural fraud and/or the others that are established in the investigation.

The situation was apparently discovered in depth by a study contracted with entities such as Esap, Icontec and Public Function to identify a real staff, which today has 10,500 teachers in 1,100 educational centers.
