Casanare Health Secretariat reports on risk levels in water quality

The Departmental Secretariat of Health has released the results of monitoring the Water Quality Risk Index (IRCA) for the urban areas of Casanare corresponding to the month of May 2024. These results indicate the following risk levels:

High risk: Trinidad.

Medium risk: Paz de Ariporo, Pore and San Luis de Palenque.

Low risk: Támara, Tauramena and Recetor.

Without risk: Aguazul, Chámeza, Hato Corozal, La Salina, Maní, Monterrey, Nunchía, Orocué, Sabanalarga, Sácama, Villanueva and Yopal.

Deficiencies in the operation and maintenance of Drinking Water Treatment Plants, as well as climatic variations, are the main causes of risk levels in water quality. The Public Health Laboratory analyzed various characteristics, such as Free Residual Chlorine, Total Coliforms, E. coli, pH, Apparent Color and Turbidity, to calculate the IRCA.

The Water Quality Risk Index (IRCA) evaluates the risk of diseases related to non-compliance with the physical, chemical and microbiological characteristics of water for human consumption, according to Resolution 2115 of 2007.

The Ministry of Health invites the community to take an active role in preventing risk situations due to the consumption of water without adequate quality levels. It is recommended to boil water for more than five minutes for direct consumption and to strengthen liquid management protocols at home.
