The Gases del Caribe Foundation opened the call for ReciclArte, an environmental initiative dedicated to transforming waste management in Puebloviejo, Magdalena. This circular economy project seeks to promote the recycling and reuse of plastic materials, promoting a culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility, as well as the generation of income in this community.
With the attendance of more than 100 families interested in participating, the assistant manager of the Magdalena area Ciro Monsalvo explained that ReciclArte aims to promote the separation of waste at source and the collection of recyclable materials, in addition to raising awareness in the community about the importance of recycling and its benefits for the environment, and, finally, facilitating the sale of recycled materials to organizations that convert them into useful products, such as plastic wood, fulfilling the complete cycle.
The project is part of the Gases del Caribe Foundation’s commitment to improving the quality of life of communities in the Caribbean region through socially responsible strategies. In Puebloviejo, where many homes are built with recycled materials to protect themselves from swamp flooding, ReciclArte seeks to transform waste into resources.
“With this initiative, the Gases del Caribe Foundation envisions a circular economy project that, through recycling, can convert plastic as a raw material to generate entrepreneurial projects with the production of furniture and other items from plastic wood. This in order to reduce the environmental impact of waste and also empower the community of Puebloviejo to see recycling as an opportunity for economic and social development.” stated Diana Santiago, Director of the Gases del Caribe Foundation.
This project is framed in compliance with the sustainability model of Gases del Caribe, which indicates in one of its commitments to generate adaptation and mitigation measures that allow contributing to the country’s climate goals, in search of decarbonization and care of the environmental environment. .
