The city of Guantánamo has always dazzled by the cleanliness of its communities, a panorama that we see change daily with the accumulation of solid waste in any of its streets.

At the same time as unhealthiness increases, the workers in the communal sector come to mind, who with few resources and with a lot of effort kept the neighborhoods of this city neat, which today cries out for action, since the growing presence of mosquitoes is evident. and gnats all around us, not to mention other vectors.

As can be seen, the rains of recent days favor the proliferation of grass that in many places hinders our walking, there are places in which we brush against these as we pass, knowing that it constitutes a safe refuge for species that threaten our health.

We know the existing difficulties with fuel to guarantee adequate garbage collection and the exodus of workers who, through animal traction, ensured this necessary work, but something must be done in the face of the multiplication of landfills in the city.

Faced with this reality, the concern of citizens is GROWING, who must also be more active in their environment, cleaning yards and developing volunteer work, a very useful practice in these cases in order to avoid the spread of outbreaks and prevent dengue, fever. Oropouche or other arboviruses.

The call from the health authorities is in line with the current epidemiological situation, which is why residents are urged to reduce the vector population, in addition to protecting themselves in their homes and in the community and being cautious about symptoms.

From my point of view, the current weeding that is seen today in the city of Guantánamo and the number of landfills that swarm everywhere requires the action not only of the population but also of various entities, in a collective effort to confront this problem.

Although vector control is a priority for the health system, let’s look carefully around us, solid waste must be collected, so that the cleanliness that has always characterized this city prevails and diseases transmitted by vectors do NOT constitute a clear threat to our health. health.
