«The Revolution listens to its young people»stated the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, when exchanging this Wednesday with leaders of the Union of Young Communists, the University Student Federation and the Federation of High School Students.
The meeting – where the member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee, Roberto Morales Ojeda, was also present – followed up on the agreements adopted in the most recent Congresses, held by Cuban university students and high school students from all over the country.
In the frank and open exchange, the president and the young people discussed several topics: student employment, attention to young people disengaged from study and work, confronting criminal manifestations, monitoring young people who live in vulnerable families, promotion of culture and values, history and defense of the Homeland.
Meyvis Estévez Echevarría, First Secretary of the National Committee of the Union of Young Communists, considered that this meeting with the secretariats of the FEU and the FEEM of the country, debated about “How much more should be done, from these student organizations, to represent the aspirations and life projects of young Cubans”.
«Particularly, in these sectors that are very vulnerable, with which we have a tremendous responsibility, and which we have to attend to all the phenomena that are occurring. Above all, it is strategic, everything we do based on the formation of values »said the youth leader.
For her part, Amanda Bárbara Santos Viamonte, National President of the Federation of High School Students, also highlighted the importance of this meeting with the Cuban president.
In that sense, he highlighted that “We evaluate everything we are doing in terms of social projection, especially the reactivation of the Student Work Brigades”.
Regarding this possibility of systematic exchange, to debate with the country’s highest leadership the issues that most concern university students today, Ricardo Rodríguez González, National President of the FEU and medical student, valued that it is an expression of the priority that the Government and the Party grant to the youth.
«Our objectives are aimed, fundamentally, at the defense of the socialist Homeland with national unity; student representation; and social projection, aimed at being part of the solutions to problems.”pointed out the top leader of the FEU.
When summarizing the meeting with the members of the national Secretariats of the University Student Federation and the Federation of High School Students, the Cuban president assured the young people that, “With their experiences, dissatisfactions and aspirations, they are part of the country’s decision-making”.
«You are part of the present and the future of Cuba. We are living in very hard times; but hard times fuel, form, strengthen; and we will emerge from them with more capacity to continue defending the Revolution.”assured Díaz-Canel.
Later, he invited the young people to “Take advantage of this time so that, by contributing, you can later feel the joy that you defended the Revolution and we achieved it, in one of the most difficult, challenging and complex times we have experienced”.
“That will remain with us as a satisfaction for life, as a legacy for life”concluded his emotional words, born from the commitment to the future of the country.
These meetings between the Cuban President and the members of the National Secretariats of the University Student Federation and the Federation of High School Students will continue to be held to follow up on the agreements adopted in the most recent Congresses of both student organizations in the country.
