To strengthen the immune system of the Elderly (AM) in the middle of the winter season, the ASISTE Dairy Bar carried out an activity to teach new food preparations from the National Complementary Food Program in Villa Volcán Reloncaví de Alerce.
The AMs learned how to make Martini Pescador, Choroy Intrépido and Chucao with Chocolate cocktails, in a day that also included podiatry, vaccination against influenza and pneumonia, plus the application of preventive health exams.
The director of the ASISTE (PA) Program, Sandra Miranda, described the initiative as positive since it illustrated what the soup and dairy drink recipes that older people receive in municipal health centers consist of.
“We notice a lot of interest in learning new ways to prepare these foods that are essential for older adults. That is, because of the vitamins and minerals they contain. They strengthen the immune system in winter. When mixed with fruits, cinnamon and cocoa, they are much healthier,” Miranda explained.
WITH FRUITS OR MAKING CAKES
Along the same lines, the president of the Reloncaví Volcano Neighborhood Council, Guadalupe Vera, commented that preparations are key to eating healthy.
“It is very interesting for the community, for older adults and caregivers that they are taught how to prepare. Not only the traditional ways, but with fruits or making cupcakes. Here they are given the alternative of preparation in new ways, understanding that they are foods prepared for them,” Vera specified.
“Everything was delicious, we had a great time. They gave us the recipes. I liked how the Martini Pescador turned out, which is made with blueberries and cinnamon,” added neighbor Juan Carlos Millatureo.
The participants also tasted tasty vegetable cupcakes made by the students of the Gastronomy specialty of the Miramar Commercial High School, cooked with eggs and that food from Pacam.
