In the moments before the All Boys-Atlanta classic, last Saturday in Floresta, for the First National, five fans of a faction of the local team’s barra brava were arrested for making anti-Semitic gestures and chants against supporters of the Villa Crespo club, linked to the Jewish community. They were accused of wanting to enter the field with a coffin with the colors of Atlanta and the flag of Israel, a flag of Palestine and another of Iran. The situation aroused the reaction, even, of the President of the Nation, Javier Milei, and the authorities of the Delegation of Argentine Israeli Associations (DAIA).
The Ministry of City Security reported that there will be exemplary sanctions to “nip these situations in the bud” at sporting events. The bars were brought to justice for anti-Semitic gestures, added to the possession of fireworks. The match was played anyway (the hosts won 1-0) and, once it was over, the police arrested a fifth All Boys fan, identified by security cameras for carrying an Iranian flag in the stadium.
On Saturday afternoon, when the incident became known, it aroused immediate reactions. Before the match, in the vicinity of the Malvinas Argentinas stadium, the Criminal Conduct Brigade detained four fans between 22 and 49 years old. In short, the five bars have already been released. Their identities were revealed: Luca Leonel Calbanese (22 years old, bearer of the flag of Palestine), Claudio Marcelo Ojeda (49 years old, bearer of the coffin with the colors of Atlanta), Gastón Ezequiel Panzini (45 years old, bearer of the coffin with the colors of the flag of Israel), Gustavo Omar del Canto (26 years old, wearing the Palestine shirt) and Leonardo Ulises Di Lorenzo (47 years old, wearing the Iranian flag).
“The summary is done. We are auxiliaries of Justice and the accused are placed at the disposal of the Prosecutor’s Office, which is in charge of criminal or contraventional proceedings. In addition, there is the administrative route that has to do with the temperament taken by the Sports Entertainment Committee, where there are sanctions,” he told Clarion the Minister of Justice and City Security, Waldo Wolff.
“Unfortunately, while some of us celebrate the release of four hostages kidnapped by Hamas just for being Jews, others act funny at the expense of the suffering of others. We are not going to allow it,” said Diego Kravetz, Secretary of Security and Chief of the City Police.
“The DAIA communicates its deep rejection of the unacceptable racist and anti-Semitic expressions by the Barras Brava of the All Boys Club that took place this Saturday in Floresta. “Displaying a funeral casket with the flag of the State of Israel constitutes a manifestation of hatred that Argentine football does not deserve,” the DAIA published on the social network. x (before, Twitter). President Milei, likewise, retweeted a publication by journalist Jonatan Viale with reference to the arrests.
Neither of the two clubs expressed themselves officially at the moment. Neither does the Argentine Football Association.
