PHOENIX — José Soriano pitched effectively into the ninth inning, Jo Adell hit a three-run homer and the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-3 on Wednesday.

The Angels rebounded after losing the first game of the series 9-4. This time they beat starter Slade Cecconi (1-5) early.

Zach Neto homered in the second inning and Adell hit his three-run shot during a four-run fourth. Matt Thaiss added an RBI double in the sixth — a home run was originally scored, before checking the replay.

Neto and Nolan Schanuel had three hits each, among the 14 that the Angels had.

This was enough and more than enough for Soriano (4-5).

The right-hander, who is in his second year in the majors, allowed two runs and five hits. He struck out five and walked a couple.

For the Angels, Venezuelans Luis Rengifo 2-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI, Luis Guillorme 1-for-4 with one run scored.

For the Diamondbacks, the Dominicans Ketel Marte 2-for-4 with one run scored and two RBIs, Geraldo Perdomo 1-for-3. Cuban Lourdes Gurriel 3-0. Venezuelan Gabriel Moreno 1-0.
