The first 24 hours of the change HBO Max delivered to its users in Latin America by becoming Max on the streaming platform were very intense. For this platform, the Colombian audience has always been very important. Patricia details that the audiovisual market for MAX in Latin America, due to numerical issues, is led by Mexico and Brazil, but “Colombia has always had a very important audiovisual maturity and a quite valuable history in its television industry, that is, Colombian content has traveled very well around the world and that is also important when producing because when you produce you do it for your own market, but you also need to amortize the production cost by showing it in other territories and in that sense Colombian content has always stood out.”
Going from HBO to MAX has not been so traumatic, taking into account the name that HBO has in the region thanks to productions such as Game of Thrones, Succession or House of the Dragon (whose second season will premiere on June 16), “and we were very aware of that, which is why people have seen that HBO has its place within Max, that is, if you go to Max and you only want to watch HBO, you are going to click on HBO and that’s it. I think it is clear to people that HBO will continue to have all the content it has had until now, with the same production quality it has always had, in fact the global head of production at HBO remains the same as it was decades ago. , that is, the same person who has produced game of Thrones is the person who produced Succession and so, the style will continue.”
With the opening of MAX what was achieved was to open the range and also give other audiences the opportunity. They will have live broadcasts as seen at the Oscars and a wide range of films that will go from the cinema to the platform. “80% of the films that come out in cinemas coming from Hollywood studios will have their first window in Max“Patricia confirmed.
As for plans, they continue with their standard and premium plans, “those who want to continue with their premium pay a little more, and those who cannot afford it pay a little less, that way we have options for everyone,” Patricia explained. For now they have not had a problem with the accounts that are hidden within the cable operators.
Another of the notable changes that have been seen in these two months has to do with the preferences or recommendations that reach each user: “The platform had an immense job and I would tell you that a job was practically done from scratch. That’s why the user experience is definitely very good, the predictive, the access, I mean, we have worked a lot on that, and of course, they are platforms that are in constant development.”
Patricia confirms that since not everything is written or done, MAX has a team that is dedicated to that and that does not stop, because the idea is to continue improving the platform day by day.
Regarding the Colombian productions that are coming, there is one called On the other side of the garden, based on a book by Colombian author Carlos Framb and which portrays the dichotomy of life and death. The film is directed by Daniel Posada and co-written with Ignacio del Moral and will star Julián Román, Juana Acosta, Vicky Hernández, Christian Tappan, Luis Fernando Hoyos, Yuri Vargas, Juan Sebastián Calero, Nelson Camayo, Laura Osma, Erick Rodríguez, among others.
