All-terrain dad! That’s how it is Oscar Revoredo Rodríguez (46). He was a mechanic, waiter, clown, ventriloquist and for ten years he has been an imitator of the remembered ‘Doctor Chapatín’by the brilliant Roberto Gómez Bolaños, to raise his daughters.

Óscar, have you always wanted to dedicate yourself to humor?

When I left school I wanted to study acting, but life led me to be a clown. I have also worked fixing engines in a mechanical workshop and as a waiter in a restaurant.

Quite a resource…

You have to do whatever it takes to move your family forward.

And since when have you characterized ‘Doctor Chapatín’?

For approximately 10 years. But I have been a clown for 27 years. In addition to imitating, I also do ventriloquism with my puppet ‘Toñín’, whom I have named after the grandson of ‘Doctor Chapatín’.

How did the idea of imitating the character come about?

A client asked me if I also played ‘Doctor Chapatín’, because she was going to celebrate her little son’s 15th birthday with different abilities and she was a fan of the character. I said ‘of course’, but I’d never really done it, ha ha ha.

You ventured…

Of course it was easy. I went to the ‘Cachina’ and bought a white wig, scarf, the jacket, the cane, all the implements. It turned out very well. And from there I haven’t stopped. I do birthday shows, baby showers and, when there is a Peru game, I go around the stadium to sell T-shirts dressed as Chapatín. They say I look the same and take photos with me.

How long did it take you to perfect it?

Two to three months. I say the classic phrases like ‘It just bothers me’, ‘Are you implying that I’m old?’, ‘I have queles in my bag… what do you care’ or ‘A little bit of bisbiruliparangaricutirimicuarodol syrup’.

Any anecdotes in your shows?

A birthday girl fainted when she saw me. She couldn’t believe we were so alike. She was a Chespirito superfan.

I imagine that you are also a recontrafan of Chespirito…

Why do I tell you no if yes, ha, ha, ha. I am chavolover, chapulinlover, chapatinlover and chespiritolover. I grew up watching their shows. And now imitating the character I admired as a child is a dream come true.

Have your daughters inherited your artistic talent?

Of course. I have three daughters, two by blood and the other by heart. They love dancing and cameras. I was a widowed dad for two years, but this 2024 I fell in love again and now we have a blended family of five.

How did you deal with that loss?

The death of my wife was very painful. She died of uterine cancer, they only gave her three months. I didn’t know what to do, I was desperate. I survived those two years because of my daughters. They are my engine and motive. I also received support from family and I am infinitely grateful.

And as they say, the show must go on…

That’s how it is. Many times I have had to smile, make people laugh, perform in shows and inside I was dying of pain.

How are you going to celebrate this Father’s Day?

With family, with a lot of love and working. Being a dad is very difficult, but if you raise your children in love and values everything becomes easier. The rest doesn’t matter.
