Citizens in the province of Santiago de Cuba reported that a young man had died in the territory due to symptoms caused by the Oropouche virus, which has begun to be reported in various parts of the Island.

According to independent reporter Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, the young man was identified as Richard Daniel Nieves Chaveco, 22 years old, who lived in the Segundo Frente municipality.

The information indicates that the young man was a student at the Universidad de Oriente, and that his death occurred while he was receiving medical attention at the ‘Ambrosio Grillo’ Hospital.

People close to the deceased contacted the communicator, stating that he began to feel bad last week, while he was at university. His mother initially took him to the Mayarí Arriba hospital, but he was later transferred back to his house with an incorrect diagnosis.

The next day, his condition worsened, so his family rushed him to the main municipality, where he was admitted to intensive care with a diagnosis of bacterial pneumonia. Despite this, the young man failed to recover, so he died the next day.

The young man’s loved ones are devastated by what happened, and are now demanding that the Santiago authorities reveal the information on the Oropouche cases that have been detected in the province, as they doubt that Nieves Chaveco’s case is the only one.

At the moment, the Ministry of Public Health of the Island (Minsap) has not officially commented on the matter, but taking into account how long it took the authorities to even recognize the presence of the virus on the Island, it is unlikely that they will reveal this type of information.

A few weeks ago, A similar case was reported in which a minor died in the province of Cienfuegos due to fever caused by the virus.something that has not been officially confirmed by the Minsap either.

It is important to remember that the virus began to be reported as a “mysterious disease” in the province of Santiago de Cuba by the same citizens. It was not until the independent media reported the case that the regime deigned to recognize the problem..

Likewise, it was until these same media identified the disease as the Oropouche virus that the Minsap issued a statement confirming the presence of this disease in several provinces of the country.
