A program for the care of children with autism spectrum disorders is being prepared today by the branch of the Cuban Medical Services Marketing Company (SMC), aimed at promoting health tourism in the province of Ciego de Ávila.

The director of the entity in Ciego de Ávila, Doctor Agnerys Cruz, specified that the project focuses on the tourist destination Jardines del Rey and includes animal therapies in the dolphinariums of the Coco and Guillermo keys and specialized medical care to improve well-being and quality of life of infants.

He stated that the initiative, a collaboration between SMC and the Canadian hotel chain Blue Diamond Resorts, will use the dolphins to serve autistic children and adults with socialization problems, a unique experience in tourist regions of Cuba.

He added that the interaction with the aquatic mammals will be in charge of specialized medical personnel and highly qualified trainers, which will be a nice experience for both tourists and therapists.
