A woman who had been linked to the police officer’s crime Jonathan Funes (24), murdered on February 14, 2015 at the Perrupato hospital in San Martín, was sentenced this Monday to four years in prison for possession of narcotics for marketing purposes.

The Federal Criminal Oral Court of Mendoza No. 1, presided over by Judge Alejandro Waldo Piña, handed down a sentence on June 24, 2024 in a drug trafficking case involving Sonia Iracheta Tapia and his daughter Morena Sheila Gómez Iracheta.

The ruling condemns Sonia Iracheta Tapia, 59, to four years in prison and to pay a fine of 427,500 pesos, under the accusation of possession of narcotics for marketing purposes. According to the ruling, the woman is under house arrest in a house in the Tres Estrellas neighborhood of Godoy Cruz.

The investigation, which began in 2018, focused on two main incidents: one in October 2018 and another in June 2022. Although Sonia Iracheta She was acquitted of the crime of drug trafficking in the 2018 incident due to doubts about her criminal responsibility; she was found guilty in the second case.

In the latter, the specific accusation was possession of narcotics for marketing purposes, which occurred on June 24, 2022, where she was considered criminally responsible as the direct author of the crime.

On the other hand, Morena Sheila Gómez Iracheta, Sonia’s daughter, was acquitted of all charges against her due to lack of prosecutorial accusation. The court also ordered the destruction of the seized material and the confiscation of money and other elements related to the crime, following the guidelines of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The murder of police officer Jonathan Funes

Jonathan Funes (24) was murdered on February 14, 2015 at the Perrupato hospital in San Martín, when three armed individuals got out of a truck and entered the hospital to rescue Cristian Tapia, who was hospitalized under the custody of Funes.

There, one of the criminals went to room 34, shot officer Funes and escaped with the criminal who had been hospitalized for five days with a gunshot wound. Once on the street, the gang managed to escape in a gray Honda Civic car without a license plate.

Both were accompanied by Sonia Iracheta Tapia (now convicted of drug trafficking), Norma Bustos Gatica, Carlos Coria and Iván Dalmau, who were later removed from the case.

Five days later, Investigations personnel arrested Javier Arturo Carnevalini (42), accused of being the material author of the Funes crime. In October 2016, Javier Carnevalini (42), José Bustos (49), Jordan “Poroto” Tapia (23) and Cristian “Pirincho” Tapia (35) were sentenced to life imprisonment for the crimes of aggravated homicide, use of a weapon fire in ideal contest and for being a victim of a member of the security force.
