Donner passed away in July 2021, ending any attempted sequel to The Goonies by the original team, since they consider it disrespectful to carry out the project without the director.

Despite this, Disney+ has a project in limbo titled Our Time which is based on one of the attempted sequels to The Goonies, although there has been no news about it and it may be collecting dust in a drawer.
