MADRID, June 17 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ukrainian authorities reported this Monday that they will ask the Government of Switzerland for clarification on which countries ended up signing the final declaration of the Peace Summit on Ukraine held over the weekend in the Swiss Alps.

The controversy has arisen after the signatures of the representatives of Iraq and Jordan do not appear in the final text although, according to kyiv, they had committed to supporting the final declaration.

“Today we will contact our colleagues in Bern and discuss once again the full list of countries that have joined. I was personally present when the results of the accession to the communiqué were announced and these countries appeared on the final scoreboard in the room where the session was held,” said Oleksander Bevz, one of the main advisers to the Ukrainian presidential office.

Bevz has asserted that kyiv will not jump to conclusions about these events and has stressed that the text is still “open” for as many countries as they wish to join. Furthermore, he has acknowledged that some representatives warned from the first moment that they would not support the final resolution of the summit.

“It is probably related to the particularities of certain political processes within these countries. Some countries were directly under pressure, and the president (Volodymir Zelensky) repeatedly spoke about this, both with regard to participation in the summit and with regard to accession to some final document,” Bevz said, according to Ukrinform.

The final list of countries that have signed on to the summit declaration in support of Ukraine – released by the Swiss government – does not include several countries, among which Iraq and Jordan stand out because, according to Ukraine, they had assured that they would support the text.

Along with these two countries, Brazil, India, Saudi Arabia and Mexico, powers of the so-called Global South, were also left out of the final text, a region that President Zelensky was precisely trying to win over during the summit in Switzerland.
