The Antillean president and his chancellor, Bruno Rodríguez, reacted in X to Pineda’s confirmation that the results of his candidacy in the elections for the European Parliament, which concluded the day before, are adverse.

Díaz-Canel asserted that Manu Pineda “is one of the essentials that (the playwright and poet) Bertolt Brecht, (Germany, 1898-1956) spoke of, of those who fight all their lives, wherever they are.”

In response, the until now European parliamentarian thanked the Cuban president for his words of encouragement and assured him that “we will continue in combat for the same objectives and with the same principles by which we have always done them, from the trenches that touch us at all times.” .

For his part, the head of Foreign Relations of the Caribbean island thanked the European activist for “his permanent commitment to the defense and promotion of the just causes of the people of the world, in particular his solidarity with our country in its tireless fight against blockade of the United States government.”

In a message previously broadcast on that same social network, Manu Pineda described as “bad and unmitigated” the electoral results in which the candidacy of the Sumar political group, to which he belongs, did not receive enough support to be elected MEP. .

He also explained that the Left forces must “reflect deeply on the role we are playing as a political space that aspires to be the reference of the transformative left.

Likewise, he announced that they would analyze the rise of the extreme right and the loss of electoral weight in their space. “It is time for humility and self-criticism. Today our political space is weaker and more fragmented, and the extreme right is stronger and emboldened,” said Manu Pineda.
